munks for N to watch while the girls and I took a nap after lunch. (I was dragging today and I really needed it.) After we woke from our nap, Kat and the kids came over to play in the kiddy pool. It had a lot of "floaters" in it, but the kids didn't seem to mind. After Ethan and "the guys" left, we settled down to eat our sour soup (canh chua) my MIL had so painstakingly prepared for us, prior to leaving on a day trip. Yes, Marci, I know you're probably horrifed, but the kids actually seemed to like it (aside from a few stray bones I overlooked). I has a tangy, lemony flavor, hence the name sour soup. After dinner, the kids came to me with horror in their voices. "Mom, there is a tarantula outside in the playhouse!" So I tiptoed out to take a look. It sure was a hairy, quick-moving little thing. (I am freaked out by spiders). I know they kill other bugs, and I want to like them, so I usually try to look the other way as long as they're not inside the house. In this case my mommy instincts kicked in as I was thinking about the "threat" against the kids. We have found two black widow spiders outside out house this year, so when I hear the word spider, my ears perk up. So I went out to get a look at this spider, then came in and looked it up on the internet. It looks like a jumping spider. So I decided it was best to leave it alone until Daddy can take care of it.
