Here's a sampling of conversations I've had today with my children...
(Of a rural gentleman riding his mower without a shirt)
(E) "Hey, why doesn't he have a shirt on!?" (How does it go?...You know you're a redneck when...)
(me)"I don't know, maybe he's trying to get a tan."
(E)"What's that?"
(me)"Brown skin"
(E)"Hey, I already have brown skin...just like Daddy."
(Of a flock of small, swooping little birds we came across walking on our way to school)
(N) "Look, Mom, the baby birds are trying to learn how to fly."
(E) "Where's their mommy?"
(me) "Oh I'm sure she's watching from somewhere."
(N)"Probably she's up there on that roof (last year we had a bird's nest under one of the tiles on our roof)"
(E)"How do we know which one is the mom?"
(me) "Just look for the biggest one, that is probably her."
(N) "No, the biggest one will be the daddy, because he's older. Just like Daddy, you're 29 and Daddy's 40, so he's bigger than you are."
(Go ahead and keep saying I'm 29, kid, cause I'm lovin' it!)
(me)"Yes, that's right, N."
Today I just did some errands. We had baseball practice at 4:30 where N and another boy got into a squabble over a sparkly rock he found. V picked up pizza for dinner and I made the antipasto salad mentioned in a previous post for our potluck tomorrow. We had to prep everything for the big game tomorrow. It's the World Series, doncha know? Tomorrow we have to be at the ballpark bright and early, the coach wants us there at 7:30, an hour early! It should be a crazy day tomorrow, as we are totally overscheduled!
