Today we went to a Father's day brunch where the biggest kid taught all the littler kids the hand signal tricks he knew (ie bunny ears, reindeer ears, thumbs up, peace sign). In case your wondering what sorts of things your kids will learn in first grade, this is it. I guess they must have been bored. Definately didn't get our money's worth on the buffet, anyhow. After grazing a little, N decided to eat a bowl full of (maraschino) cherries for dessert. I suppose I should have stopped him, but it was just too cute and reminded me of something I would have done at his age...I sure hope they removed that cancer-causing red dye out since the 80s.
Blueberry Picking
Since it was such a nice day, we decided to go blueberry picking at a place down the road from our house. There once was a time when Grandma and Grandpa had an unlimited supply of blueberries to pick. Now we are paying $5/pint! I thought what a nice touch a row of blueberry bushes would be to our backyard, so I asked the farmer where they got the bushes, thinking maybe we could get some from the same place. Well, he said they had to buy them up in Oregon and have them brought down. It figures! We had some excitement when we foundestled in the branches of one of the blueberry bushes, complete with a little bird. What a great opportunity for the kids to learn about nature!
