My daughter...the singer

The Singing Stars group (all girls age 5 and 6)

After the performance

E finished her performance on Monday night for her Singing Stars class. She is the exact opposite of me! While I avoid performances and being the center of attention, she thrives on that stuff. So while I'm trying to just "blend in", I've got Miss Fancy here vying for every one's attention, which often gets me noticed too. Although, there was a tiny bit of hesitation when she forgot the name of her song on stage, receiving a prompt from her teacher, that girl is spunky! She really did well with the group songs. After the recital, we walked down the street and had a nice Mexican dinner to celebrate.

So now we have started fall, or fire season again. It's that miserable time when the Santa Ana winds (or devil winds) start blowing, strong and dry. Meanwhile, the chaparral is dried out after a hot and rainless summer. It makes any place with a little natural beauty a natural tinderbox. Today the I-5, a major thoroughfare in these parts, was closed for several hours due to a fire, sparked by a landscaper cutting weeds, burning at nearby Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. My head started aching sometime around 2 pm today and hasn't stopped yet. I don't know if it's the smoke or dry air, or something else. Some parts of fall are nice, the cooler nights, crisp morning air, but the fires... I, for one, can do without.
