Eerie camping trip

Our pumpkins... a skeleton and a howling wolf cub (scout).
Dad carved skeleton and V carved the wolf.

This weekend after the kids' Saturday morning soccer games (both at the same time), and carving a few pumpkins, we headed up to the mountains for an eerie cub scout camping trip. After the carnival and costume contest, we each had (one) sloppy joe, some overcooked vegetables and a bag of chips for dinner. I'm not complaining or anything, but the guys must have gone to bed hungry! A won the costume contest in the cutest contest category. She was so pleased with herself, and full of smiles. She finally got some well-deserved recognition! After a skit-filled campfire and trick-or-treating at all the "haunted" campsites, the kids (and their parents) were exhausted. We decided to skip the late-night movie (Monsters, Inc.) and hunkered down for what turned out to be a (excrutiatingly) long night. I thought wearing my sweats, sleeping on an air mattress and having A in my sleeping bag would make me one (toasty) hot mama. Boy, was I wrong! The temperature dropped down to the (low)40s and I spent half the night trying to curl up and conserve heat, my bag terribly inadequate for cold weather. I tried sealing the top of my sleeping bag, but I kept running out of oxygen. In the morning I found out everyone else there had a similar experience. I am so tired and stiff... And so happy it was only for one night.

When we got home it was baths all around (the water turned brown-yuck)
