Veterans Day, Volunteer work, Viruses and Vista

We finished soccer! Yippee! I could use a little break. No more practices, no more games (until Spring, that is). Both the big kids had their team parties and received their trophies. The trophies look more like a globe than a soccer ball.(cute idea though). We also went on a short family vacation over Veterans Day weekend and called it "A's birthday trip". Somehow I was roped into dyeing 6 or 7 pounds of Rigatoni with food coloring by the kindergarten teachers. The teachers said it couldn't be done at school, since the 5-year-olds just couldn't seem to stay away from all those tempting (and crunchy) noodles, so I had to bring the whole mess of them home with me. Since we went out of town for the long Veteran's day weekend, I spent the day Wednesday with colored noodles spread all over our back patio, drying in the sun (incidentally, I found the Archway Farms brand Rigatoni from Target had the best results). I was wondering what they needed all that Rigatoni from us for at the beginning of the year (now I know!). I got the job done and returned the noodles intact. I don't think they realized just how fresh that "dye job" was.

A celebrated her third birthday on Friday. Now that she's 3, I can use this fact as rationale for behavior change! Examples: "Why are you whining? You can't do that, now that you're three." "Three-year-olds don't need their mommies to wipe their butts anymore." "Kids who are three get their own ice water." "Now that you're three you should be able to get your own shoes and socks on without mommy's help." I know, I'm one tough cookie.

I got my flu shot Wednesday. Ooowee, that arm hurt for days. I decided to wait on the kids shots because they started getting the sniffles. It's a good thing too. Thursday morning, about an hour and a half after walking the kids to school, I got a call from the elementary school to come pick up a very glassy-eyed, sore-throated, raspy-voiced E. I took her home and she ended up having a fever of "3301". (For those of you over the age of 5, that means 103.3). It's been two days of fever spikes and ibuprofen doses now. When will this end? I was just in her room to check on her and she is sleeping (or should I say sweating). She also decided to have one of her allergic reactions to who-knows-what on Friday night. The kind where her lips swell up twice normal, and her eyes get all puffy (no hives this time), so I was giving her Benadryl as well. I'm sure it's a food allergy, because she gets a "stomach-ache" as well. I'm just not sure what causes it (still trying to narrow it down). She had raspberries, lemon yogurt, French's fried onions, pine nuts, cashews, and a lollipop left-over from Halloween (among other things) on Friday afternoon/evening.

This morning I was up at the crack of dawn (5:30), so that I could make it to the 7 am cub scout committee meeting (this job is requiring some severe dedication). V had his teeth cleaned at 10. When he came home, I was off to see Ms. Swank (my new hair stylist) for a cut and style (and a color refresh). Then I took a solo flight to Target. I was too tired to make it to Gap for their Give and Get Program. The 30% discount ends tomorrow, so we all know what has to be done!

Dad is still here. He plans to leave Monday. For some reason, he decided to fiddle with my (desktop) computer (the one I don't use because it is toooooo slow). He removed some programs to "speed it up". Only something went wrong, go figure, and he ended up having to reinstall Windows. I had Windows Vista on it before, but my computer didn't have enough RAM to support it, which is probably why it was so slow in the first place. Anyhow, since he was reinstalling anyway, I told him to just reinstall Windows XP instead. That Vista has been clogging up my computer for over a year now! I'm glad to (finally) be rid of it. So now it is "just like starting over" only we can't find the install disk for Quicken. Hmmm, maybe this means I'll have to upgrade all out computers to the 2009 version.

Well, as Tigger says, TTFN (Ta ta for now)! Off to bed with me! 5:30 am is hitting me hard.
